Hypnotherapy at Remedy

Hypnosis is a very pleasant and relaxing experience similar to a guided meditation or daydream. It is a method or technique which quiets the conscious mind, bypasses our normal judgement and allows suggestions which are acceptable to us into the subconscious mind where immediate and permanent change is achieved. The subconscious mind controls our habits, beliefs, feelings and emotions so unless we re-programme the subconscious mind, making the changes we know we should logically make can be very difficult.

On a conscious level we many know that we should lose weight. However, at an unconscious level we can be fantasising about our next bar of chocolate and how great it will make us feel. Hypnosis allows us to access the subconscious mind and make these changes, eliminating the need for and struggle with willpower. Willpower comes from our conscious mind and when the conscious and unconscious minds are in conflict the unconscious mind always wins. In other words imagination is more powerful than will. Directly accessing the subconscious mind through hypnosis enables us to make the changes required for a happy, wonderful life full of limitless possibilities.

In hypnosis you are never asleep. In the deeper levels of hypnosis your conscious mind is actually two to three hundred percent more alert than you are at this very moment. All of your senses are hundreds of times more heightened than they are right now. In fact, in hypnosis you are probably more alert and clear minded than you have ever been before.

When in hypnosis, the conscious mind plays the role of guardian of the gates. It protects you. When your conscious mind hears a suggestion it must make a decision about that suggestion. The decision you make determines whether that suggestion is allowed to enter the subconscious mind or whether it is rejected. If it is allowed to enter, you will have the change that you are here to achieve and if it is rejected there will be no change.

  • Firstly, if the conscious mind likes the suggestion, it will accept it and change begins.
  • If the conscious mind hates the suggestion or it goes against you beliefs or morals it will instantly be rejected.
  • Even if it is only slightly uncomfortable to you or even if there is even a mild dislike towards it, again it will be rejected.
  • Finally, even if you are simply neutral towards the suggestion, once again it will be rejected and no change will occur.

In order for change to occur, when the conscious mind hears the suggestion, it has to feel very strongly “I like it, I want it” and then wonderful, immediate, positive changes can begin to occur in your life.

A trance is a natural state that we go into and out of all the time. If we are doing something repetitive such as driving a car, we can often slip into a trance, especially if we are driving a familiar route. It’s a bit like doing something on automatic pilot. We drive the car unconsciously allowing our mind to wander. Often we arrive at our destination with little memory of our journey. However, if any danger were to occur such as a child or animal running in front of the car, our conscious mind would instantly bring us out of that relaxed state and into a more alert, focused one. Similarly, when you are in hypnosis, all you have to do is have the slightest thought that you don’t want to be in this relaxed state anymore and instantly, it’s over and you are back to your normal awareness.
